We planned this elaborate scheme to go to Utah and surprise everyone this August. Derrick got a little over a week off of school which we weren't planning on and I got people to cover my shifts really easily, so we thought it was perfect. Plus it all fell the same week that our niece got baptized as well as a family reunion with Derrick's family and a camping trip with mine. However, our plans got a little changed last minute. We found out the Monday before we were supposed to leave (We were leaving on Wednesday), that Derrick's grandpa had passed away the night before. So we tried (unsuccessfully) to get an earlier flight and our surprise got told (except to my mom, she was still surprised! More on that later...).
It was still a good trip. Very busy, but good to see everyone and say goodbye to Grandpa Rhoads. I'm incredibly grateful how it all worked out. We always worried that if one of our grandparents passed away while we were here, that it would be difficult to get back to Utah because of school and work. I think the timing of everything worked out perfectly and there was a reason for it.
We will miss you Grandpa!
