Mini Vacation

We went up North to see Kirtland and Lake Erie this last weekend. It was a really great experience. I am grateful to be living close to a city that has so much significance to the early Latter Day Saints. We are close to a lot of church history sites, so that means we have a lot to see while living here in Ohio!

We left Friday morning, because I had the weekend off work, and we stayed until Saturday night. We got home late Saturday. It was neat to go and see a lot of the different places. I did not realize the Saints stayed in Ohio for as long as they did (7 years!). A lot of revelation was given here in Ohio; much of which is in the Doctrine and Covenants. I have a lot to study!

The first "school of the prophets" Iva went crazy in this room. She was so happy and excited and then cried when we left. I think she saw some of her friends, like Joseph, in here. It was neat.

That table was the original table that the prophet sat in!

These pictures got switched, but she face planted, then came up smiling haha

The Stony Brook, where many members were baptized

Newel K. Whitney Home

Hey a street named after us! I made Derrick stop, and we almost got hit by a car oops

Another room that Iva went crazy in! This is the room where section 76 of the D&C came from! Very good feeling here

"Mother Johnson" loved colors! They stripped down the original cupboards to find this teal color which they matched to paint the restored room! The room above had a pretty coral color, which was originally the Johnson's bedroom, but they gave it to the prophet Joseph to use for the work of the church.

Original coral "warming cabinet" It was where they put clothes or blankets above the fireplace to keep warm.

Standing on the same steps that the prophet preached from!

Original floorboards

They stripped the floor and found these colors in the spare bedroom downstairs. Mother Johnson was ahead of her time in interior decorating!

This shows that they were a wealthy family. The yellow color was apparently expensive.

Iva's feelings on the Kirtland Temple ha. The temple isn't owned by the church. I know the incredible things that happened there, but the spirit was very different here as compared to the other buildings in Kirtland that the church does own. But it was very neat to see because of all the history.

The Morley farmhouse where they held the third or fourth General Conference of the church. There is not a building here, because most of the land that the farm sat on is private property. But the spirit was strong.

Sitting at the beach of Lake Erie!

We think this is the lighthouse that the saints would have seen coming into the harbor from the Erie Canal when they came to Ohio!

Iva did not care much for the lighthouse ha

Huge lake!

So that was our trip! It was short and sweet, but perfect. We learned a ton and had a lot of fun!

Park of Roses

We found our new picnic spot! The Park of Roses here in Columbus is AMAZING! It is a huge, beautiful garden full of roses and different flowers. There is a separate herb garden and daffodil garden as well as the rose sections.

Laughing with her Ama!

Some random stranger took this picture of us. She said we looked "like a magazine," so she wanted to take it haha

One of my favorite pictures of the day

Columbus Zoo!

While my parents were here, we decided to go to the zoo! The Columbus zoo is pretty amazing. It is HUGE! Unfortunately, the majority of us are still not humidity resistant, and it was a pretty hot, muggy day. There was even a huge rainstorm in the afternoon, but it only lasted about ten minutes, then was back to hot and muggy. But it was fun to walk around and see the animals! I have a feeling that we will be back a lot in the next 4-6 years!

Not loving the hot humidity!

Ok, maybe I like it now! (this was at the end of the day!)

Indiana Jones baby!

Derrick told my mom to put her leg up "like a flamingo" haha

Spoiled by Ama and Aba with her new stuffed penguin!

Worn out after a hard day at the zoo!
